clary sage, essential oils, lavender, natural soap, oily mess, soap, spring
What a gloriously sunny day we have had today. The past week has been very mixed with sun, rain and wind – often all in an hour – but today was a gorgeous Spring day. It was certainly uplifting.
The day didn’t quite go to plan. After lunch with Mum, and I promise not a drop of alcohol passed my lips, I decided to make a batch of soap. I have a gorgeous glacial green clay to use to colour my soap, and I thought that I would make a batch of lavender and clary sage, something I haven’t made for ages. I think it is a beautiful essential oil blend, so I don’t know why I haven’t. The oils were weighed and melted, the lye solution was ready, essential oils and clay weighed. I wanted a layered soap, with the clay only in the bottom layer which meant splitting the oils and lye solution. As I was pouring the oils, the bucket flew off the scales and the oil went, well everywhere. The walls, the floor, the scales and my shoes were all coated in a film of oil. Great.
I quickly mopped the floor and re-weighed the oils to see how much I had lost. Then I dashed upstairs, to recalculate the amount of lye solution needed. I will find out tomorrow whether or not the soap has been successful, but I have my fingers crossed. I didn’t have the Saturday afternoon I had intended.
Tomorrow, I am hoping for a far less interesting day.
