How nice to get a feeling of spring, finally. It seems like it has been a long time coming. The weather is dithering a little and doesn’t appear to be sure whether the sun should shine or not, and there is a cool wind. Out of the wind, however, it is pleasant and warm, today felt almost sultry, more like a late autumn evening than spring. I have thrown open my bedroom window almost for the first time this year and I am hoping that I am not going to have to close it again until late autumn.
It is hard to believe that we are in May. We now have much longer evenings, and a long weekend ahead. It will be nice to have Monday pottering about and not doing much. I have the whole day off, which is a rarity. The phone will be off the metaphorical hook (I remember when you could actually do that) the door will be locked and I will be relaxing. I am off shopping with Mum on Sunday morning, so may need Monday to recover. Marks and Spencer at a Bank Holiday weekend is, perhaps, not the cleverest thing to be doing.
The back door was open for most of the day, with the scamper beasts in and out like demented furry, well, scamper beasts. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
I have rose buds appearing on Gertrude Jeykll. I have been very careful to follow all the instructions given. It was such a delight last year, and I hoping that this year it will be even more glorious.
I love seeing the leaves appearing on the plants in the garden. My wisteria is doing very well, although I think it will be a while yet before it flowers – three to five years is the norm. The honeysuckle is also growing madly. I did get a few flowers on that last year, and I hope that I get more there too.
It will be lovely to spend time out of doors without being buried inside multiple tops and heavy coats, but of course it won’t be long before everyone is complaining about it being too warm.
