Bracken has been on heart medication and diuretics for about 3 weeks, and the coughing has stopped. There has been no sign of fitting and little wheezing (although when she runs around like a mad thing, barking, she can wheeze a touch).
We were back to visit the vet, who appears to have fallen for her charms, last week and we have agreed that she should see a cardiologist so that we know exactly what we are dealing with, and I am just waiting for a date for that. We also agreed that she should come off the diuretics to see if the cough returns. So far, so good and there has been no sign, so there doesn’t appear to be a fluid build up which is positive.
I am hoping that the prognosis isn’t too dire. I forget that she isn’t a young dog now – she is 11 but doesn’t behave like it – and she hasn’t showed much in the way of slowing down, even with a dicky heart. Expensive though they might be, I am hoping that whatever ails her is kept in check with the medication for a long while yet.
