Poor Bracken seems to be falling apart.
Bracken’s heart has deteriorated, so she has been put on additional medication. The cardiologist also wanted a blood test to check her electrolyte levels and renal function. Unfortunately, this has shown that her kidneys are now compromised because of the high dose of diuretics. As I write, I am waiting for the Cardiologist to contact me about the results.
It took her almost a week to recover from the Saturday morning coughing fit, gradually building up enough strength to go for a walk without struggling. Her cough has settled to infrequent, although I have noticed that often it will be preceded by raising her head and turning it to the left, something I need to mention to the Cardiologist.
When I got the phone call about the blood test results, I went on-line and ordered her some renal food. I found a company (www.purepetfood.com) that I hadn’t come across before so placed an order. It comes as a dehydrated powdery substance which you re-hydrate with some warm water. Although, to me, it looks a bit like wet sawdust, Bracken is almost inhaling it, so clearly it tastes better than it looks and as long as it helps, that is what counts.
Meanwhile, having spent £300 on drugs for her for a month, I had a look on-line to see if I can buy them cheaper. If I do that, it will cost me £84 for drugs for a month. Even with the cost of the prescription, that will be worth doing.
